Residential
Our Residences
OASIS Community will be a gated neighborhood of individual mostly for-sale homes and duplexes facing a shared community space. It will include a community center, walking trails, green space and an accessible playground for children and adults. It will be designed around people, not cars. Traffic will flow around the perimeter creating a safe, pedestrian-friendly neighborhood.
As a neurodiverse neighborhood, OASIS Community will be a mix of neurodivergent and neurotypical residents who choose to live there as supportive intentional neighbors. At this time, we envision the neighborhood for about 60 residents comprising 75% neurodivergent and 25% neurotypical residents.
The homes will be fully ADA compliant, utilize smart home technology for safety, security and supports and to control access to individual residences and common areas. Each bedroom will have a private en-suite bathroom. Residences will be equipped with adaptable kitchens and insulated against sound and vibration.
The Benefits for Adults with IDD
While the benefits are many, the overarching purpose of intentional neighboring is to eliminate social isolation in the lives of our most vulnerable population. It puts into action the belief that ordinary people of all ages and abilities can provide support and safety for each other while they also address the difficult challenges faced when living with a disability. But this community goes beyond those who live nearby.
The world is a big and beautiful place filled with wonderful blessings. Intentional community seeks to bring the best of these blessings to those whose life-circumstance makes it difficult to pursue them on their own. In short, intentional community is people living together, interdependently, on purpose. OASIS believes that as everyone entering this community shares this vision and acts with mutual respect toward one another, this community can, and will, thrive.
Collaborative Community Partnerships
As an incorporated entity, OASIS Community will be a contributing participant within Tippecanoe County. OASIS will seek to expand its friendships by developing collaborative partnerships with local government, organizations in Greater Lafayette, departments within Purdue University and various medical services so that we might enhance the general population’s understanding of our goal and improve opportunities for our resident’s involvement in the life of the broader community.
At the same time, we expect that these bridges into the community will also open the way for more services to be provided for our residents. OASIS Community will provide programs and training for residents to improve their independent living skills, enhance their social skills or learn a new hobby.
OASIS Community will provide the environment and homes but will not provide support services. Our residents with IDD will continue to be able to choose their own HCBS providers for their support needs as they occupy a home they have purchased or have chosen to rent.
